If you are in Oregon this Thanksgiving, you stand a better than average chance of encountering Tofurkey. A lot of people in New York are searching for caterers to prepare the holiday menu than anywhere else in the country. Live in the Southeast? Brace yourself for a big scoop of broccoli casserole.
And no matter where in the country you are, don’t be amazed if the host molds refrigerated breadstick dough and bakes it into a cornucopia centerpiece. It is the break-out hit recipe of the season at Allrecipes.com, the nation’s largest cooking Web site..
First off, the bird. While you could go traditional with an oven-cooked meal, one-day searches have soared on the crispy kind: Many may well find a deep-fried fowl on their Thanksgiving table. Queries on the delightful sounding "cajun deep fried bird recipes" skyrocketed over 1,000%. "Turkey brine" is also popular, as is "roasted turkey recipe." But hey, even searches on "tofurkey," the "bird" carved from soybeans, are big right now. PETA would be proud..
"There are a few instances in the county each year where there have been fires or earnest injuries as a direct result of people using turkey fryers," Cox said. "I wouldn't call it a big problem within the county, however the incidents that results from these tend to be very earnest. These are fires that reason significant damage and very earnest injuries.". .

I really despise that life assurance business
I received a strange request from my mom over the weekend. She has it in her head that she needs over 50 life insurance policy.
To be honest I wasn't very eager. How can you plan for the death of your mother? I even told her to forget about it and not worry about having a life insurance.
What do I need money from her for when she is no longer with us? Am I supposed to profit from her death? It is just a terrible thought. Isn't it better she enjoys the money and goes on the holiday or something, rather than saving from her small pension so I get money after a period of time.
Sorry for the rant. At the end I decided I'll look into it and it is surprisingly complicated. I really didn't have any idea of what whole or term policy means. And there were so many conditions and exception.
Now I know why she needed my help, if I can't understand over 50 life insurance plans how is she supposed to do it.
This whole life insurance business is very morbid. I don't know, currently I do have life cover but that is because I have a big mortgage to pay and I wouldn't want anyone to have to pay my debt.

Another push for SunRail
http://oscnewsgazette.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5102&Itemid=6
Florida Senate Democratic Leader Al Lawson, D-Tallahassee, and Florida House Democratic Leader Franklin Sands, D-Weston, called on the Republican leaders to work toward securing more than 2.5 billion in funding for SunRail and other rail projects.
Last year, the bill cleared the House but died in the Senate when staunch opposition led by Sen. Paula Dockery, R-Lakeland, brought it down on the floor. Earlier this year, a similar measure passed its only House Committee but again got held up in the Senate.
In October, talk of a special session began as Atwater said the federal government was looking for action on other rail projects in Florida before it considers approving the states $2.5 billion application for the first leg of the long proposed Tampa-Orlando-Miami bullet train.
Central Floridas top transportation priority is SunRail, said Harold Barley. He is the executive director for Metroplan Orlando, the Central Florida transportation planning organization. He is the Denise of the Central Florida TPO. Denise Bunnewith is the North Florida TPO executive director.Florida is moving forward someone said.
He launched a PowerPoint presentation. The first slide was of a donkey pulling a street car over tracks laid in a dirt road in what appeared to be a rural setting. Isn't it all about choices
State legislators pushing for SunRail are in the process of gathering support should a special session be called in the coming weeks.
Florida future is important.
LeMieux said for the state to receive federal funding, it had to show it was willing to pass SunRail in Tallahassee.

Wannstead - Weis done and dusted
Wannstead - Weis done and dusted
Oh, how the tables have turned.
For Wannstedt, college football was his last chance to be a head coach.
Weis was coming off his third NFL championship with the Patriots and considered a rising star in the coaching ranks.
Weis' Fighting Irish won that game easily, but they were also much more talented.
But times have changed and these two coaches find themselves moving in opposite directions.
With that said, Saturday's matchup had all the makings of an early 2000 Patriots-Dolphins game.. What do Florida Fans think about that.
Wannstedt and Weis are moving in different directions, like two ships passing in the night..
Good luck to them both.
What we learned
1. Dave Wannstedt's teams are now capable of winning close games.
2. Rutgers has improved mightily since the beginning of the season.
3. Syracuse has not improved and is still the worst team in the Big East.

The decision to close offices and suspend underwriting is based on an on-going fraud investigation, Ryder said.
The news frustrated customers, particularly because they were not notified of the changes.

California Financial News - Budget cuts
Budget cuts will cripple California colleges and universities
From the 1960s to the 1990s the vocational training system in California was 2nd to none. Nation flocked to this impressive state so that their children not only had admission to the K-12 system, but to a social university system that rivals the Ivy League.
The University of California system is a big player in the world of secondary education; however, with the latest budget cuts – and the plans for more – that may all be changing. This is a travesty and will only work to tip the scales in the sinful direction.
California's public pensions need reform
Advocates of overhauling California's problematic pension system for public labourer could not have chosen a more providential moment to throw away their reform campaign.
The enormous California Public Employees' Retirement System is in deep financial doo-doo, having lost tens of billions of dollars in often-theoretical investments, and is telling state and local officials it going to need more "contributions." Meantime, investigations are below way into multimillion-dollar payments to placement agents who arranged some investments.
State Finance Directors Warn of More Cruxes Ahead
Short-time budget gaps have battered states as earnings plummeted through the retirement. Assistance by about $250 billion in funds from the stimulus package expected through the end of 2010, states governed to shut down the gaps this year - 2009. But both finance directors, talking at a Pew Center on the States event in Washington, were pessimistic about their position' futures on the other side financial 2011

Taylor Swift Country Music Awards
On Wednesday night, Swift stormed the Country Music Association Awards 2009 and took at home all 4 prizes for which she was nominated, including the much-coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy.
While it seemed like a approval of Swift's success from the country music establishment, not everybody was pleased with the 19-year-old's triumph. Country music legend Wynonna Judd spoke out against Swift's triumph, though she reversed her position on Thursday.
During an interview on the show's red carpet Wednesday night, Wynonna was asked what advice she would give to Taylor. "You want my honest comment? It's too much too soon," the Country legend said, according to USAToday.com. "Time is God's way of keeping everything from happening at once. It's just too much of a good thing too soon. Mom and I rode in a automobile for the first year of our career to visit radio stations. There was a making of the star, there was a rising-up, and the fans went with us. Now it's over coffee breaks, the success, almost."
But on Thursday, Judd clarified her stance on the message board of her official Web site. "I understand that my comment about Taylor Swift's Entertainer of the Year nomination came across as a negative statement," the Country legend wrote. "My intent was not to take anything away from her talent and contributions to the country music industry, all of which are truly unprecedented for an artist of any age. Taylor is a beautiful, hard-working young woman that deserves the success she has had and I support her as an artist and as a woman in the business."

The US parents
The US parents who triggered a major alert by claiming their six-year-old son was adrift in a helium balloon are to admit charges, their lawyer says.
Falcon Heene's mother is to admit false reporting to authorities and his father will admit attempting to influence a public servant.
Falcon's disappearance became a media drama but he was later found at home.
